The medieval citadel that constituted the heart of Tallinn during the period of the Hanseatic League goes under the name of Vanallin, and it is included in the Unesco list of world human heritage as the best preserved town in Northern Europe. The 13th century citadel stretches out on the foothills of the Toompea hill, and it is a maze of cobbled lanes, elegant buildings, well preserved churches, houses of merchants, brotherhoods and guilds. In the warm spring and summer days it is such a pleasant activity to walk down these old streets filled with cafés and shops, maybe stopping from time to time to admire old palaces and buildings which made the history of the city.
