
The Gothic building which plays host to the town hall dates back to the 13th century, after king Erik IV of Denmark granted Tallinn the status of city, and the creation of a seat for the city council became necessary. The current aspect of the building is actually dated from the 15th century.

Inside one can admire the splendid vaults of the central hall, as well as some valuable artworks. In July and August is possible to visit the entire establishment, from the cellars to the tower. To reach the top of the 115 m tower you must climb a steep and strenuous stairway , but you will be rewarded by an incomparable view.
