The convent belongs to the group of medieval buildings established by the rich merchants and tradesmen of the city. The construction began in 1407 in Gothic style, but in the second half of the 16th century the convent was destroyed. Here priests used to live together, sharing common areas and practicing their religious services and ceremonies. A legend has it that the convent hides a secret subterranean passage beneath, which connects the building to the city.Today only the 35 m. gable and the side walls remain standing.

The area of the convent has become a favourite spot for Tallinn citizens, who love to make pleasant walks and enjoy a bit of relax. Guided tours in multiple languages are available.
