This is one of the few Renaissance buildings still standing in Tallinn. The Brotherhood was founded as a gathering place for the young merchants who were not yet accepted in the Great Guild, and for foreign tradesmen who spent long periods in town.

The Brotherhood takes its name from the Christian martyr St. Mauritius, the patron of merchants. The house was built at the end of the XIV century, but the façade was reconstructed at the end of the 16th century in Dutch Renaissance style, with a mix of ornaments and carvings. The main hall is made up of two naves and a 15th century vault. The last reconstruction of the interiors dates from 1908, with the addition of neoclassic features.
